Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 medium spaghetti squash, pre-cooked (preferably in Instant Pot)
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups pasta sauce (your favorite kind)
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1 cup pre-cooked meat (Italian sausage, ground beef, or chicken)
  • 1/2 cup chopped mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup sliced olives
  • 1/2 cup chopped vegetables (bell peppers, onions, etc.)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Prepare the baking dish: Place the pre-cooked spaghetti squash into a 9×9 inch baking dish. If you have more squash, use a larger dish to accommodate the quantity.
  3. Combine ingredients: Stir in the pasta sauce into the spaghetti squash thoroughly. Add your desired optional add-ins such as pre-cooked meats, mushrooms, olives, vegetables, and Italian seasoning to enhance the flavor and texture.
  4. Add cheeses: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the mixture. Optionally, you can also add grated Parmesan cheese on top for extra flavor.
  5. Bake the casserole: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the casserole is heated through completely.
  6. Broil for crispy cheese (optional): For a golden-brown, crispy cheese topping, switch your oven to the broil setting and broil the casserole for 3 to 5 minutes. Keep a close eye on it to prevent burning.
  7. Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven, let it cool slightly, then serve warm as a tasty and wholesome meal.

Notes

  • You can cook the spaghetti squash ahead of time in an Instant Pot, oven, or microwave before assembling the casserole.
  • Feel free to customize the add-ins based on your preference or what you have on hand; Italian seasoning adds a great flavor dimension.
  • Broiling the cheese at the end is optional but recommended for a crispy, golden topping.
  • This casserole keeps well in the refrigerator for 3-4 days and reheats nicely.
  • For a gluten-free version, confirm your pasta sauce does not contain gluten-containing additives.
