Cabbage Base
- 1 small head of cabbage (cut into thick slices)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Burger Mixture
- 1 ½ lbs ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 egg (optional, for binding)
Topping
- ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Prepare Cabbage: Slice the cabbage into thick rounds, about ½-inch thick each. Brush both sides of the cabbage slices with olive oil and place them evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
- Make Burger Mixture: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and the egg if using. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
- Assemble Burgers: Take a handful of the meat mixture and press it onto each cabbage slice, evenly shaping it into a patty that covers the cabbage surface.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the cabbage burgers for 25 minutes to cook the meat through and soften the cabbage.
- Add Cheese and Broil: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheese over each burger. Switch your oven to broil and return the baking sheet for 3-5 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
- Serve and Garnish: Remove the burgers from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve immediately with sour cream, mustard, or your favorite dipping sauce on the side.
