Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 lb ground sausage (mild or spicy, your choice)

Dairy

  • 1 8 oz package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Canned Goods & Condiments

  • 1 10 oz can Rotel (diced tomatoes with green chilies), drained
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Spices & Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped

Instructions

  1. Cook the sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until it is browned and crumbly, ensuring it is thoroughly cooked. Drain off any excess grease to keep the dip from becoming too oily.
  2. Mix the base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper. Stir the ingredients together until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  3. Add in the flavor: Stir the cooked sausage, drained Rotel tomatoes, shredded sharp cheddar, and shredded mozzarella cheeses into the creamy mixture, making sure everything is evenly combined.
  4. Bake the dip: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×9 or 8×8 inch baking dish, then spread the dip mixture evenly inside. Bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbling around the edges.
  5. Serve hot: Remove the dip from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped parsley or green onions. Serve warm alongside tortilla chips, crackers, or toasted baguette slices for dipping.

Notes

  • You can adjust the heat level by using mild or spicy sausage and by including or omitting the cayenne pepper.
  • Make sure to drain the Rotel tomatoes well to prevent the dip from becoming watery.
  • For a lower-fat option, use reduced-fat cream cheese and sour cream.
  • This dip can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated before baking; just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking cold from the fridge.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
