Ingredients

Scale

Sandwich Ingredients

  • 4 hoagie rolls (hinged, not sliced all the way through)
  • ½ lb deli ham
  • ½ lb salami
  • ½ lb roast beef or cooked ground beef
  • ¼ lb sliced pepperoni (optional but tasty)
  • 8 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup pickled banana peppers or pepperoncini
  • ½ cup sautéed onions (optional)

Seasoning & Topping

  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the sandwiches.
  2. Prepare Rolls: Slice each hoagie roll lengthwise, taking care to keep them hinged so they open like a book without cutting all the way through.
  3. Layer Meats: Place a few slices of ham, salami, and roast beef inside each roll. Add pepperoni slices if using for extra flavor.
  4. Add Cheese: Top each sandwich evenly with 2 slices of provolone or mozzarella cheese to create a melty, gooey layer.
  5. Add Peppers & Onions: Sprinkle banana peppers and sautéed onions into the sandwiches if desired, adding tanginess and sweetness.
  6. Prepare Baking Sheet: Place the filled sandwiches on a parchment-lined baking sheet for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  7. Butter & Season: Brush the tops of the hoagie rolls with melted butter, then generously sprinkle Italian seasoning over them for added flavor and a golden crust.
  8. Cover & Bake: Loosely cover the sandwiches with foil to prevent burning and bake for 10–15 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt and fillings to warm thoroughly.
  9. Uncover & Crisp: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 2–3 minutes to achieve a crisp, golden-brown top on the rolls.
  10. Serve: Serve the sandwiches hot paired with chips, olives, or a fresh side salad for a complete meal.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños or substitute banana peppers with spicy pepperoncini.
  • Use freshly baked hoagie rolls for the best texture and flavor.
  • Sauté onions lightly until golden for added sweetness and depth.
  • Covering with foil during the initial bake helps melt cheese evenly without drying the bread.
  • These sandwiches can be made ahead and warmed in the oven before serving.
