Quick and easy 30-minute cinnamon rolls made with crescent roll dough, a buttery cinnamon-sugar filling, and a creamy homemade cream cheese frosting. Perfect for a delicious breakfast treat or dessert that requires minimal prep and baking time.

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Rolls

  • 1 tube of crescent roll dough
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tablespoon cinnamon
  • ¼ cup heavy cream

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • ¼ cup cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1.2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) to get it ready for baking the cinnamon rolls.
  2. Make Cinnamon Sugar Paste: In a bowl, mix together the unsalted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until you achieve a thick, spreadable paste.
  3. Prepare Dough: Roll out the crescent roll dough onto a clean surface, then evenly spread the cinnamon sugar mixture all over the dough surface.
  4. Roll and Slice: Roll the dough lengthwise tightly into a log. Using a very sharp knife or a piece of string, cut the rolled dough into 1 to 1½ inch thick cinnamon rolls.
  5. Arrange Rolls: Place the cinnamon roll slices into a baking dish, spacing them about an inch apart to allow room for expansion during baking.
  6. Add Heavy Cream and Bake: Pour the heavy cream evenly over the rolls, then bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the rolls are puffed up and slightly golden.
  7. Make Cream Cheese Frosting: While rolls bake, combine cream cheese and butter in a mixing bowl and beat with a fork or whisk until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing again until the frosting is creamy and well combined.
  8. Frost Rolls: Once the cinnamon rolls are removed from the oven and still warm, spread the cream cheese frosting on top so it melts slightly, creating a luscious glaze.
  9. Serve: Serve the cinnamon rolls warm to enjoy the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use a sharp knife or string to make clean cuts without squashing the rolls.
  • For softer rolls, cover the baking dish with foil for the first 10 minutes of baking, then uncover to brown.
  • You can substitute brown sugar with white sugar if needed but brown sugar adds moisture and depth.
  • Make sure the rolls are warm when frosting for a melted glaze effect.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days and reheat gently.
